One of the most beautiful and interesting animals we get to see quite regularly on the farm is the poison dart frog. We have several varieties down by our stream and in the jungle around the house. They can be quite dangerous! As a rule, you should never handle frogs or toads, anyway. Frogs have very sensitive skin and human hands can damage them. Check out some really cool info on these beautiful creatures!
We are looking for an assistant to our sustainable living instructor to help out with different construction projects. Currently we are building an outdoor kitchen with a living roof that will house an earthen oven, a barrel oven, counter tops, and a sink. We also have under construction a 14 foot diameter cob house with a living roof (the first of many) and soon we will also be starting construction on a composting toilet. Many other projects are upcoming once these have been completed. In addition to this we are growing our organic farm, trail building through our 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of jungle, and much more.
This is a great opportunity for someone with natural building experience who is interested in learning more with some real hands-on immersion. The right candidate(s) will be working with our sustainable living instructor Bearfoot. You can view his bio here.
We are asking for a minimum commitment of 3 months with the possibility of this becoming a long-term position. This position is available starting 1 August 2017. Shared accommodations are included in our house and camping is always available if you prefer more privacy but you would need to provide your own tent and gear. As we are a small organization we only ask that you contribute a small amount for food. We go to the farmers market once a week and spend $25 each (approximately $100 per month). We strive to provide organic produce as much as possible. Be prepared for hard work, wholesome food, and good friends!
If you are interested please email us through our contact page here. After this we would like to meet you face to face via Skype or Facebook video chat to learn more about you, your goals, and answer any questions that you may have.
Earth Ayni is a healing, wellness, sustainable living center, and organic farm that recently relocated from Peru to Costa Rica. We are located near the beach town of Dominical on the Central Pacific Coast. The land is a mixture of pasture and jungle and has a creek running through it with many natural swimming holes. Our water supply is very pure, coming from the many springs we have on the property. We are very close to multiple waterfalls, rivers, and beautiful beaches for surfing. Join us in the land of Pura Vida!
Our new friend Chad arrived for the long term apprenticeship program. Our old friend Alex is here as well and is helping out with the construction for one month. We had a cyclone roll through so things were moving along a bit slowly at first. We were dealing with installing a shelter over our work site so we can start construction on the first cob house with a green roof during the rainy season. The best thing we could find locally were 4 pop-up tents which are working well after we came up with a drainage system that we hung from the roof interior. We wanted something that was easily movable as we have many cottages planned for the future. The rubble trench foundation is nearly finished. The trailer is complete as well and we will begin gathering local stones from the side of the road for our construction. We have also started prepping the site where we are building an open air community kitchen with a green roof. It will house a sink, and earthen oven, and a barrel oven. Pretty soon our monthly pizza night will be back in full swing! The greenhouse is full of food which we have been harvesting and lowering our weekly food costs. In addition, our solar dehydrator is finally complete! We are now testing out mangoes, pineapple, banana, and flour made from yucca and coconut. Most importantly, we have a new addition to the family! Our new puppy’s name is Reishi and she was a rescue who came wandering out of the jungle nearby. It’s feeling more and more like home here every day!
A special thanks goes out to Allen Scotti who offered some tools for our center in Costa Rica. Thanks Allen! We really appreciate it and they will be a great help!
