Our new friend Chad arrived for the long term apprenticeship program. Our old friend Alex is here as well and is helping out with the construction for one month. We had a cyclone roll through so things were moving along a bit slowly at first. We were dealing with installing a shelter over our work site so we can start construction on the first cob house with a green roof during the rainy season. The best thing we could find locally were 4 pop-up tents which are working well after we came up with a drainage system that we hung from the roof interior. We wanted something that was easily movable as we have many cottages planned for the future. The rubble trench foundation is nearly finished. The trailer is complete as well and we will begin gathering local stones from the side of the road for our construction. We have also started prepping the site where we are building an open air community kitchen with a green roof. It will house a sink, and earthen oven, and a barrel oven. Pretty soon our monthly pizza night will be back in full swing! The greenhouse is full of food which we have been harvesting and lowering our weekly food costs. In addition, our solar dehydrator is finally complete! We are now testing out mangoes, pineapple, banana, and flour made from yucca and coconut. Most importantly, we have a new addition to the family! Our new puppy’s name is Reishi and she was a rescue who came wandering out of the jungle nearby. It’s feeling more and more like home here every day!
